Hello everyone,

I am a 25 year old woman, who underwent surgery almost two years ago to remove a 8cm fibroid from my uterus. Before undergoing a myomectomy, I learned from an emergency visit that I had also developed a ovarian cyst. During the procedure my doctor also had to remove the ovary with the cyst, because he said that there was nothing he could do about it.

I just wanted to know if anyone else had other complications from having a myomectomy or had a similar situation. Has any who has had the surgery had a hard time getting pregnant? I'm not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon, but I want to have children in the future

My doctor told me that I was at higher risk at developing another fibroid and that being African American also increased my chances. Does anyone know of any research that supports why African American women develop fibroids earlier and much quicker?

In most instances having fibroids does not prevent one from getting pregnant. However, if a woman is pregnant and not taking enough bed rest or being particular about her activities then she may begin to bleed, which can endanger the life of her unborn child.

As for African American women being prone to fibroids, it appears that it is due to excess stress, which creates imbalances in the body.

For more information about fibroids and your question you are welcomed to visit the Washington Uterine Fibroid Meet Up site. This meet up is in our nation's capital in Washington, DC and is excellent. Just punch in fibroids in the Meet-Up subject space and type in zip code 20001.
