Hi,

I'm new to this board and read a few posts. It seems that most people whose responses/posts I've read experience heavy bleeding/long periods, but I haven't had that problem so much until recently.

I was diagnosed with at least 3 detectable fibroids on the outside of my uterus in January. The largest was about 3cm. At the time, they caused some symptoms, including occasional pelvic pain unassociated with menstrual cycle (I thought it was just gas) and a weird pain above my rectum. I was embarrassed to tell anyone that because, well, it just seemed weird. When I went back for follow-up in August, the largest one had grown to about 9cm and now 5 were detected. I could see them myself on the sonogram.

With consultation from my doctor and after a vicious week of a degenerating fibroid (couldn't get out of bed for 3 days), I decided to schedule a myomectomy. Since the fibroid degenerated, I get occasional sharp pelvic pains but nothing like before, breast tenderness up to 2 weeks before my period, and my stomach seems swollen at times. Of course I have the other common symptoms - back pain, leg pain, cramping for days before my period, etc.

So, I guess I have 3 questions:
Has anyone else experienced degeneration of a fibroid? If so did you have different symptoms afterward? Did you think you still needed treatment after degeneration?

The myomectomy is scheduled in 2 weeks, so I'm getting a little nervous. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I forgot to mention that I've also been extremely tired and have discomfort during/after intercourse. Do fibroids have something to do with sapping energy when you're not anemic?
